With all the war and fighting going on in Syria, everyday life is a struggle. Very few places in Syria are safe. Syrians make the best of this situation in different ways. Some sacrifice their comfort and health, just for safety and the go to refugee camps. Others read in an underground library because it is safer than above ground. Most of them use reading as a way to distract themselves for the constant fighting. All in all the way Syrians live their lives is much different than the way we live ours.
Throughout daily life, Syrians face harsh conditions. According to “Syria’s Secret Library” by Mike Thompson, students with the privilege to go to school have to study in cramped spaces, they are rarely giving the opportunity to go to college and even if they get the opportunity it will cost a lot of money (2). The Syrians have many worries the would almost be irrational to us, for example a library was built underground because of the constant fear of it being bombed (2). Some Syrians survive by fleeing the country, as crazy as this may sound it can oftentimes be much safer than staying behind in Syria (Thompson,3). One way Syrians distract themselves from all the violence and war is reading, many people say it brings peace to them and it can ease their minds (Thompson,5).
