“Where we could see how the “rich” lived and experience - even if just for an hour a day”(Alyssa Rosenberg). As wealthy tv shows begin to fill channels. “A fantasy world where we have started to induce ourselves into the lives of the 1%” (Farnoosh Torabi). It's true, we all prefer to watch the rich, even if we don't like to admit it. You most likely have a tv. Over 98% of of people in the early 1990’s had a least 1 tv. Back then a tv was a necessity, you could see what a perfect suburban family looked liked, craving you had the same. I trust that's where this has all started, even years ago people preferred to see the well dressed, rich families. Now that I've told you that we like to watch rich people on tv because it mentally lets of relieve stress, i'm going to tell you about stereotypes. Stereotypes are “a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing”. Meaning stereotypes are how people will view a specific group or ethnicity of people, good or bad. For example a stereotype could be as simple as the preppy, blonde, cheerleaders are normally stereotyped as “rude” or “popular”. Another one could be that the kids who wear glasses and like to read books are “nerds”. “Black women are a cash cow for cable networks. Millions of us tune to Bravi, VH1, WE TV and other networks that have invested in reality television's”(Alyssa Rosenberg). This is a major example of a stereotype because African American women in tv shows are most known for their sass or funny attitude, making them get different roles in tv shows or movies. Some of the few stereotypes used in tv are about the same as the ones used during a daily routine. One of the tv stereotypes I've noticed were that a person with a nice car and nice clothes are automatically “rich”, when in reality you have no idea what financial issues they could be dealing with. In a tv show like “Keeping up with the Kardashians” when you see Kim or Kylie, or Kendall, you already see that they are wealthy, but you don't know that for sure until you dig a little deeper into their lives. At this point I think this is when people like to see the “rich” be rich. Even if the stars start to crumble over in money, they want to see them start back up. I think that because we are all curious on how they do it. If Kim Kardashian were to lose a ton of money, people would be constantly on her tail about how she's planning to bump it back it up. All together I believe that stereotypes play a huge part in why we prefer to see rich people open
