Stephen King has had from 50 to 75 books made into movies. The main reason why Stephen King has been so successful is his style of writing. Stephen King had many different messages in his writing but some had occurred more than once. His characters had a type, which was a flawed character that had had a troubled past. Stephen King was not limited to his signature horror books, he has a plethora of genres in his writings.
Stephen King's writing style is very unique. In Carrie he produces realism by using news clippings, letters ,and magazine article in his writing. King was successful in his writing of IT because he knew that the best thing for the book was to write in an “all seeing” view or third person. King would embellish his themes by using metaphors and other literary devices. He writes about this in The Body and It. The Body is about boys who go in search for a dead body and along the way they find out different things about themselves and each other. Stephen King also writes about messages surrounding sin. In Carrie he writes about sin and what the effects of sinning and forcing yourself to avoid sinning are. Carrie's mother cared so much about not sinning that she was overbearing her kid and almost forced her to go insane. Stephen King’s books almost always involved a character that had flaws and was troubled. Carrie was bullied constantly from her classmates ,and after they had dumped pig blood on her at prom she goes psycho and uses he telekinetic powers to get her revenge on not just her classmates but the whole town. In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, King shows his versatility by having his main character be inspired by hope and do what he can to accomplish his goals. He usually writes about the characters flaws coming out but, Andy Dufresne was all about getting out of prison and going away. Even though they are still troubled the characters in this book are far less flawed. King had a lot of his more popular books written in a horror fashion but he was not limited to just horror.
