Stephanie Kwolek invented Kevlar by mistake in 1965. Kwolek was trying to find a new synthetic fiber that could withstand extreme conditions. She found that under certain conditions, a large number of polyamide molecules "line up in parallel to form cloudy liquid crystalline solutions. She took a chance and spun the solution into fibers that became stronger than any fiber ever created thus far. It was resistant to tears, bullets, and a lot of extreme conditions. Today it is used in a number of things including tires, bulletproof vests, spacecrafts, and protective
