Mankind was and is unable to save itself. The laws of God show the imperfection of mankind. Therefore, sinful flesh cannot redeem sinful flesh. Offenses against a holy and immutable God cannot be given amnesty. God sent His Son into the world as a human to identify with humanity, and yet live a sinless life. The Father sends the Son, the Son obeys and fulfills the plan and purpose of his incarnation, thereby glorifying the Father. From his miraculous birth to his ascension he was truly God and truly man. Neither did the two natures coalesce into one making him entirely divine (Eutyches). Christ is not a second God, a demigod (Gnosticism), nor is he only the wisdom of God, he is God, being eternally generated from God. The atoning work of Christ was accomplished through the uniqueness of who he was. To deny the deity of Christ, questions the accomplished work of salvation. A created being (Arian) cannot claim the attributes of God, neither can a spiritual being (Apollinarism) claim affinity with man. True salvation is only complete if it is accomplished by the God-man.
