Serena Williams Serena Jameka Williams is a famous woman who is famous for many things, but mostly her dominance in tennis. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 26, 1981. Serena didn’t have a very great childhood. She moved from Saginaw to Compton, California. She grew up in Compton where lots of gang activity occurred. She practiced tennis constantly growing up, even though the tennis courts in Compton were in bad condition. Williams’ father, Richard, would practice with Serena all the time. Both Serena and her sister, Venus, have been successful in tennis. Serena developed her own athletic line of clothing called “Aneres”, which is her name spelled backwards.
