Salmonella is a bacteriabacterium that is the most common cause of food poisoning. It is dangerous, and sometimes deadly when people who are at risk catch it. S. typhimurium and S. enteritidis are two strains of the bacteria bacterium that are responsible for most of the food poisoning cases in America, although there are several, and some known to be very resistant to antibiotics. Since symptoms can take anywhere from 12 hours to 3 days to show up in humans, it can be very hard to trace back to true source of the infection. The terrorist group trying to make a true name for itself, is planning an attack on the food supply at a local grocery store. They have found a very disgruntled employee working in the produce department, and have offered a lot of money, for them to carry out a very devious plan. The employee will have to ask to switch his schedule to third shift, and since the managers are not to found of the employee, they are all too willing to allow the transition, to get the employee out of their hair.
In a small apartment right around the corner of the grocery store, the group is planning the attack. Their connections in the Middle East are gearing up to send them some genetically altered salmonella in a box. This salmonella plot has been in the works for a while, but no one was sure how to pull it off; that was until the disgruntled employee came up with a plan to poison the exposed fruits and vegetable. Preventing attacks like this one would not be easy. No one expected that the employee was going to purposefully infect foods because they were upset. But the grocery store could have taken a few extra steps to prevent this. First they should have had the water supply tested at a minimum weekly, and as soon as any reports of food poisoning where reported. They could have also ran deeper back ground checks on their employees and made sure that they do not have any type of violent crime, or anything that says ‘hey, maybe they should not work with food.’ The company also has a responsibility to its shoppers to post signs about large outbreaks, warning of potential contamination, and given resources to learn how to prevent them, like a CDC
