Romeo and Juliet is a classic play written in the 1590's by William Shakespeare. It's read in classrooms all over the world including the St. Charles High Gifted English 2 class.
Classic literature is defined as "the literature of any language in a period notable for the excellence and enduring quality of its writer's' works" "Classical Literature." Encyclopedia Britannica Online. Encyclopedia Britannica, n.d. Web. 16 Sept. 2016.
. At this moment, Romeo and Juliet is still considered classic literature despite people's doubt. Those people say that the play is old and outdated, but this play is called "classic literature" for a reason. It's an expression of life and shines with beauty. Many people are able to read the play (or the SparkNotes version) so it's not just an adult or genius level of reading that you need. Individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and race can relate to the events happening in this old, time withstanding piece of literature.

Those movies were Gnomeo and Juliet, the 1968 version, and the 1996 versions of Romeo and Juliet movie productions. These movies differed much more than you would have thought they would. One of the first differences you notice is the difference in time periods. The time difference from the 14th century setting to a modern-day setting was not at all alarming since it was a children's movie, but the time difference weakened the effect of the 1996 version. The movie was based on a more modern age while it kept the same dialogue from the play which resulted in the movie seeming childish and portraying the directors as too lazy to update the script. The characterization of the 1996 version benefited to the idea of the dramatization of the characters
