Description: The red wolf has been listed as critically endangered since 1996 and is protected by United States law. It is a typical canine who eats river rats, rabbits and rodents. Their size is somewhere between that of a gray wolf and a coyote. Adults measure between 136 – 160 cm in length and weighs between 23 – 39kg. It has also been compared to the greyhound for its long and slender limbs. It is a reddish, tawny colour with big ears and small skull. Studies in 2016 concluded that the red wolf is a hybrid formed between the gray wolf and the coyote.
