The Polar Bear exhibit at the zoo was the smallest exhibit that I viewed for the day for such a massive animal. By estimation, the exhibit is about 70 feet wide, and 100 feet long. Half of the exhibit is terrain which was a smooth flattened rock surface with several big rocks for the bear to climb up on. The other half of the exhibit was a pool of water, the zoo designed the pool with the edges of the pool to be white, to perhaps give a more arctic feel for the viewers. Also, there were many toys present for the polar bear to play with, including a bowling ball, a small looking metal trash can, and a rubber ball. Unfortunately, when I visited the bear, he was sleeping and I did not get to witness any of the action. In the rock walls of the exhibit, two big holes were also present, as an educated guess, I would believe that to be the polar bears den to stay in for when he is not out in the exhibit. Unfortunately, no zoo employee’s or signs were present for me to get an insight on their daily life or diet at the zoo. After mating, the female polar bear would dig dens to give birth, the average litter of these bears are one to four cubs. These cubs are born blind, which forces the mother to nurture them as they remain in the den for months even after birth. However, even once they are ready to leave the den, the mother bear also care for the cubs for another two to three years. Also, polar bears are notorious for preying on other polar bear cubs, which causes the female polar bear to be very cautious when her cubs are around male polar bears. In terms of reproduction, the polar bears are polygynous. Mating occurs normally during late winter, or early spring. The average lifespan of the polar bears are about thirty years in the wild, and close to thirty eight under
