After my team finished playing for the day, I was excited to be able to sit on the bleachers and watch my sister’s team play. As I was watching, I noticed the coach look up at me and trying to get my attention. Since everyone on my sisters’ team couldn’t make it to the tournament that weekend, I figured it could only mean one thing. She wanted me to be a sub for my sisters’ team. Eventually, she got my attention and signaled for me to get my gear on (shin guard, mouth guard, and jersey).
Once I was in my uniform and ready to play, I started to get very anxious. These teams that were playing were not only older than me, but they were very skilled. I had never been more uneasy because I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of parents that I didn't know as well as the parents that I did know. I tried to calm myself down by telling myself that it would be fun. Then after a little, the coach put me in the game and I wasn’t very aggressive at first, not like I had been earlier playing on my own team with kids my age and skill level.
