Research Paper On Piercing Parlors

During teenage years, teenagers start to think about piercing and tattoos and what they want to do with their body. I remember when I was in high school, many friends of mine got piercings. When I was I believe 15 or 16 years old, I wanted to get my belly pierced. The day I went, the person at the piercing parlor tells me that he needed to see my ID. Of course I'm confused because I didn't know why all of sudden he needed to see identification. I learned that day that all piercing parlors in New York had a law that you needed to be 18 years and older to get any piercing unless you had a consent from a parent or legal guardian written in the presence of the owner at the body piercing studio. (health.ny.gov).It was very frustrating because all …show more content…
We are responsible for our children in all aspects and held up by society to take care if our children and all their mistakes.” (today.com). Another parent commented saying, “It’s the same issue with drinking and drugs. Just because kids are sexually active or may be sexually active, it doesn’t mean parents should make it easy for them,” (today.com). Teenagers can purchase Plan B, but can’t vote until 18, can’t see an R-rated movie at movie theaters unless 17 or younger have to be accompanying by a parent or adult and can’t drink unless you’re 21 and older. It’s obvious that sex it’s perform in an early age at least now a days seems like it from 10 to 11 years old. These laws especially the R-rated ones, teenagers learn about sex from friends, in school, in the streets, etc. Same goes with drinking, underage drinking happens every day, fake Id’s, friends 21 and older, adult, etc. Now these laws I’m not against them, but it blows my mind that teenagers 15 and older can purchase the Plan B, and get abortions without parent consent. I personally don’t see nothing wrong if a 15 or 16 year old wants to get a body piercing. I know many times piercing does give you side effects, but many times is very minor. The biggest side effect is an infection that when taken care early, it goes away right away. But I believe piercings is an art body expression. It’s a style and a trend. The same way goes with tattoos as well. Side effects are there as well from skin infection and allergic

Yet, on the negative side of things, minors may take advantage of this, knowing they have an “easy way out” if they become pregnant, therefore some minors may be less careful during intercourse, and not using contraceptive methods. I feel if a minor becomes pregnant, in some cases it would be more helpful if an authority figure knew and could be supportive, but all in all the minor would have the decision whether she wants an abortion or…

Melissa Kang writes in her article, "Age of Consent Laws: Puritan Notions of Right and Wrong," that “In a civilized world that acknowledges the rights of the child, young people also need some say in what the law does and does not let them do.” Teenagers should be able to easily access quality sex education and programs that can provide them with knowledge about contraceptives and information about abortions. They should be able to have a say in what education they receive and the decisions they make. Kang provides a very important fact when she says, “In other places where there is openness towards addressing sexuality and easier access to health information and services, adolescent pregnancy rates are lower.” Sex education classes, are “watered down” in the sense that no one really understands the graphic consequences of diseases or how to properly use contraceptives to prevent them and unwanted pregnancies.…

1.3.1 Case Laws: 1.3.2 The Gillick competence Both at common law and statutory provisions, children have the capacity to perform certain acts and take certain decisions even without the consent of their parents or guardians. The critical question is whether the child has reached the age of maturity and has the capacity to make those decision or actions. Ms Gillick brought a court case against both the Council and the Health Authority about contraception, which she argues was unlawful, on the grounds that it is causing or empowering unlawful sex with children under 16 years, and contravenes s 28(1) of the Sexual Offenses Act 1956, or the offense of being an accomplice to unlawful sex with children under 16, as opposed to s 6(1) of that Act.…

For many generations it has been a growing issue for minors to be in a relationship with someone who has already hit the maturity age. There have been laws put into place to prevent minors engaging in relationships with those who are over the age of 18. A particular law that has recently been put into place is the “Romeo and Juliet Law.” Statutory rape laws are put into place to prevent older men or women from engaging in sexual activity with one who is younger than the age of consent. One growing issue with these laws is they are continuously being broken.…

It has been proven time and time again that the frontal cortex of the brain, the part responsible for problem solving, judgement, impulse control, and sexual behavior, is not fully developed until twenty-five. As such, leaving an eighteen year old without any guidance only encourages drug use, alcoholism, and teenage pregnancies. In the article, “When Should a Person be Considered an Adult?”, author Jenn Savedge explains how teens take risks and seem to be unable to get their lives together until they hit their mid twenties (Savedge). An article from Scholastic’s “Teens and Decision Making: What Brain Science Reveals” further argues Savedge’s point by explaining that the habit of making rash decisions happens more in teenagers than adults. Society would more than likely see a decrease in teenage crime rates and pregnancies if the law was to increase the age of responsibility to the aforementioned…

However, those who are supporting forcing teens to notify or get consent from their parents to “promote the best interests of young women and improve family communications” fail to realize they are stripping teens of their right of privacy which is unconstitutional. In France, the government pays for girls to have birth control without parental consent, and as the government pays for it, that adds another level of privacy. They are doing this because they believe it will “reduce the teen pregnancy rate” (Judy Molland) which they think is also due to “ignorance, taboo and lack of access to contraception” (Judy Molland). Many do not see keeping contraception’s away from teens as a safe way to keep them from having sex or running into sexual…
