Research Paper On Octopus Cups

Decent Essays
We have done a lot of exciting and intriguing projects so far in science. However, one of my favorite things we have done was the octopus cups. During this activity, there was a rubber band with stings tyed around it that when you pulled them out it got bigger. We had to find a way to hold onto the tips of the string without touching the bands and stack cups. My team did exceedingly well and we ended up finishing first! Another fun activity we did was, the one where you and your partner were connected by two strings, you then had to untangle yourselfs without letting the ropes leave your wrists. This activity caused you to have to think very deeply and use teamwork.

Did you know that Dumbo Octopus is located at the bottom of every ocean in the world? The Dumbo Octopus is located in the deep depths in oceans, and rarely gets any sunlight since it lives so deep. The Dumbo Octopus is rarely seen, and that’s why only very few people know about it. Dumbo Octopuses live in the deep depths in the New Zealand, Australia, Monterey Bay in California, in the waters of Oregon and the Philippines, as well as Papua, and New Guinea. My big home project was accomplished at Chase High School instead of it being completed at my home. Mrs. Kraus provided me and a fellow student ( Ashlyn Cox) the opportunity to clean the concession stand in the gymnasium so it would be clean for the Prom. We cleansed the concession stand with Oxygen Orange which is an all purpose cleaner and can clean almost anything. Prior to heading to the location we gathered four wash rags and we each had our own bottle of Oxygen Orange. When we arrived to the concession stand it was an absolute mess.…

Before the girls jumped onto the high ropes course, we did a quick team-building activity on the low ropes course. Between the 20 of us, we all had to fit on four small, square platforms that were about ten feet apart, with a rope-swing in the middle. The objective of this activity was to have everyone swing across to the platform on the opposite side. The rules were as followed: everyone is allowed two swings on the rope, we were allowed to touch the ground three times before we had to start over, and the rope was not allowed to be swung unless a person was on it. The girls worked together and used their LEADSTAR communication to complete this activity in two tries!…

    Gobstoppers Observation

I absolutely loved observing the gobstoppers in water and how the colors created defined sections and eventually mixed in with the other colored gobstoppers. In this activity, the greatest breakthrough I had was our class discussion about accommodating the lesson for students who may have learning/behavior disabilities, vision or hearing impairments, or other forms of disabilities. A kindergarten physical science standard covers the topic of objects being sorted and described by their properties, such as color. Going into a kindergarten classroom this semester, I think the students would love observing and predicting what is going to happen with the colors and the gobstoppers themselves and would enjoy explaining what they see happening to…

On October 15th, 2015 Caitlin, Christy and I visited the Long Island Children Museum to learn more about fun activities to do with children for a science lesson. When we first got there and looked around the first floor we all looked at each other because we didn’t think we would find anything here that had to do with science. After walking around the first floor for a little bit, we realized there were two sections here that had to deal with science. The first section we realized was called Bubbles and we didn’t go in it right away because there were so many little children in there and we didn’t want to bother them. So, then we went to the second section on the first floor which was called the Tool Box.…

My main goal for this project was to allow students to think like scientists. For this project, my classroom was filled with various animals. Before allowing students to view the animals, I posed the question: “What do you notice about the habitat of each animal?” Then, each student had the opportunity to observe, write about, and investigate each animal. Because my students had already been exposed to disciplinary literacy, they were better prepared for this type of project based learning.…

When I was in tenth grade, in my marine sciences class we had a group project, in which we had to build three boats. It was the first project of the year, and it was a big part all of our grades. The boats could only be twelve centimeters by twelve centimeters at the most and could only be comprised of the materials provided in the class, tinfoil, two popsicle sticks, straws, tape, paper, etc. Each boat had to serve a different purpose, sail straight, hold thirty dice, or survive waves, and the group that built the boat that served its purpose the best received extra credit. My group consisted of Shane, Kyle, Isaac, and…

This semester I was assigned to Easthaven Elementary School and for my end of course project I had my class make get-well cards for Leukemia patients. This is very different from my original proposed project idea, but I felt this one made a much bigger impact on everyone involved. I work on an Acute Leukemia floor in the James Cancer Hospital and the kids were raising money to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Once the kids knew I worked on a leukemia floor, they asked me all kinds of questions about my job, the patients etc. It was really cool to teach people about our patient population and how the money people donate really does help the patients.…

The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

A science conception that I would make into a fun activity is that all metals are attracted to magnets. I would have my scientists work in groups and each group would have different pieces of metals. The students would use a chart to fill in which metals were attracted to the magnet and which were not. I would then ask the students to write a story together about the different metal pieces, making each piece of metal a different character. In the story the students must implement which metals did not attract to the magnets.…
