Stereotypes surround all types of issues and cultures across the world, and this includes the issue of mental illness. It has always been a difficult to track certain traits of antisocial behavior. This includes people who are exhibiting the more stereotypical behavior of a sociopath. The point could be made that anyone’s ego can be pushed off balance at some point, not just a sociopath.…

Most artistic pursuits, from music to painting to literature, share the universal principle of using repetitive elements. While these elements add another layer of meaning to a simple phenomenon, authors use motifs to convey the significance behind their story. In Snow White, Grimm employs the magic mirror and the queen’s obsession of self-image multiple times throughout the book to capture the dangers of vanity. Taking a plain element, the mirror, Grimm warns the audience of the eventual self-destruction that will occur with narcissism. Since motifs remain a conventional literary device, in Things Fall Apart Achebe uses the motif of parent-child relationships to characterize Okonkwo’s brutality and compassion, explore the complex nature of…

The increase is present in both narcissism’s subclinical and clinically diagnosed version. It can be argued, that the increasing rates are due to declining self-report bias. However, researchers found that unlikely owing to NPI’s forced-choice format, where neither option is more socially desirable, and the fact that the increasing rates have also been tested by structured clinical interviews (Twenge & Foster,…

Narcissists are great at being chameleons. They are known for being smart, confident, and articulate, and usually very charming when we first get to know them. Oftentimes they are obnoxious, and love themselves anyway…at least outwardly. More striking — and more surprising — they were aware that people who knew them well did not have quite the same high opinion of them. They acknowledged that those people would indeed see them as self-absorbed and disagreeable.…
