“Mona Lisa” by Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most famous portraits in history. It is believed to have been created in 1503-1504. It is shrouded in mystery as no one really knows why it was painted. Although, art historians believe the portrait is of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Florentine cloth merchant Francesco del Giocondo, as the alternative name of the portrait is “La Gioconda.” Art historians also believe the portrait was either made in 1503 to commemorate Francesco del Giocondo and his wife purchasing their own house or in 1502 when they had their second son after the death of their daughter in 1499.
