Mid ocean ridges is the creation of the motion diverging plates and it is an underwater mountain range which are formed by plate tectonics. It consist of mountains linked together, having a valley running along the spine, and its known as an oceanic spreading center which is in charge of the seafloor spreading. New seafloor is being produced when convection currents rise in the mantle layer which is under the oceanic crust, it then create magma that cools down into basalt where two plates is push away from each other. Ridge push and slab pull are the two processes that is in charge of the spreading of the mid ocean ridges. The ‘ridge push’ process occur when the growing part of the ridges keep on pushing the tectonic plate away from the ridge, most of the time to a subduction zone. This is where the other process come in, which is the weight of the tectonic plate is being pulled below the plate that is over and dragging the other plate along behind it.

Which then produce enormous volcanic eruptions and the molten rock that does not erupt become solid onto the edges of the plates as they spread apart.
Now let’s talk about the global distribution of the mid-ocean ridges and how they are spread around the whole globe. Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the East Pacific Rise are two most studied ridges by geologists. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge runs down the center of the Atlantic Ocean and then spread slowly, forming a rift valley while the East Pacific Rise spread 5 times faster than the Mid-Atlantic ridge. Due its fast spreading, the East Pacific Rise doesn’t have a rift valley instead it possess a smooth volcanic summit with a crack throughout the crest.
