When Mastodon came on the bass player came out with his hands held high above his head shouting at the crowd. They then began playing their set opening with Oblivion, off their album they just came out with. I really started paying attention to guitars when the guitar player, Brent Hinds, brought out his see through Flying V guitar. It was one of the most amazing guitars I had ever seen. I left that night feeling pretty good. For it being my first ever concert, I was amazed that you could do so much more with just 5 instruments. It got me on a mindset of playing guitar. A year later I went to another concert in St. Louis. I saw Cavalera Conspiracy. The singer, Max Cavalera, is a pretty big icon in metal especially with him being in Sepultura and Soulfy. That night when they opened I saw a pretty cool light show. But what really got me into him and later really finding Sepultura being an influence is as they were all still playing one of their songs, he made his way behind all the amps and wiring and came over behind one amp, smiled at me and gave me the metal horns and walked back.
