Marie Sklodowska was born in Warsaw, Poland on November 7th 1867. She had five siblings and her parents were teachers. Her father’s subject area was math and physics, which she was immediately drawn to. At ten years old, her mother died of tuberculosis. After completing secondary school, Marie was a tutor and a nanny. All of her spare time was used to study and read on math, physics, and chemistry. Her intelligence was immense and because of it, she went to Paris to study at the Sorbonne. She loved her subject matter so much; she survived on only tea and buttered bread to pay for her education.
