Montessori made her first trip to the United States; this was the exact same year that Alexander Graham Bell and his wife founded the Montessori Education Association in their home in Washington, DC. Maria Montessori had many other supporters other than Alexander; there was also, Thomas Edison and Helen Keller. The reason why she went to the United States was because of the President’s daughter at the time, Margaret Wilson. However, during her second visit to the United States, she was conducting a teacher training course and addressed annual conventions of both the National Education Association and the International Kindergarten Union. “Children teach themselves.” The simplicity behind this inspired Montessori’s long-life pursuit of educational reform, methodology, psychology, teaching, and teacher-training. Since back then it was all to do with all men because their families were more wealthy then most of the families who had girls. Girls back then were known to work as maids and were not allowed to go to school, which I highly disagree with. Everyone should have had the right to go to school rather than just the boys getting to go and the girls had to stay home to
