The animal I am researching today is the manatee, also known as known as Sirenia. Scientist have measured that manatees live to about 60 years or more. Manatees can be found in shallow, slow-moving rivers, estuaries, saltwater bays, canals, and coastal areas, particularly where sea grass beds or freshwater vegetation flourish. The average adult manatee is about 10 feet long and weighs between 800 and 1,200 pounds. Two interesting facts are that manatees can hold their breath for twenty minutes and the closest living relatives are elephants.
