Mama is a hour and forty minutes long supernatural horror fantasy film about two children who were abandoned in a hut in the woods for 5 years, turning feral with only this “mama” with them. Once found they are reintroduced into society, living with their uncle but the children find it difficult to fit in mentioning that this spirit “mama” tells them not to.
Mama was produced by Pinewood Toronto studios, they are based in Toronto, Ontario in Canada but they have other studios around the world including the UK, Atlanta, Malaysia and the Dominican Republic. The studios are known for other films such as Suicide Squad, Kick Ass 2 and Carrie. The studios has produced several works in the horror genre like Carrie and they also produce several other low budget films

Mama was based on a short argentine film also called mama and both were written and directed by Andres Muschietti, the short film has a similar story line but it is fitted into a smaller time frame. Mama is a low budget film with a small amount of people involved, the producers are Guillemot Del Toro, J.Miles Dale and Barbara Muschietti, Del Toro is also known for the Hellboy series, the Kung Fu Panda series and Pans Labyrinth. The budget for the film was $20,000,000 and on opening weekend it made $28,402,310 in America in the 18th of January 2013. From opening weekend to the 29th of March it made $71,588,220 in the us.
