The Taliban claim responsibility for Malala. They denied her because of her campaign for education. “Malala has been targeted because of her pioneer role in preaching secularism. She was a young but she was promoting western culture in Pashtun areas. She was pro-west.” (256) After Malala won the national peace prize, she had mentioned one of her favorite politicians was Barack Obama. By shooting Malala because of this, I believe that this brought more attention to Malala and strengthens her cause. The Taliban continued threatening others by saying “Anyone who sides with the government against us will die at our hands.” (257) Secularism is the separation of state from religion. The Taliban may be against secularism because they are using this reasoning to justify shooting Malala. The shot Malala because she is going against what they believe in. They believe that women should not go to school, and to just stay at home. Malala and her father has been strong, and publicly speaking her opinion against the Taliban. The Taliban feels threatened and try to kill Malala. They justify killing her because the Taliban believe that they are doing god’s work. God wants others to follow the rules he sets, therefor the Taliban is enforcing
