Indie which is also called alternative rock is a genre of rock music that has emerged in the 80s and was very popular in the 90s. It isn't so much of a sound it’s more of a concept, it was taken from the word ‘independent,’ it’s about setting up your own recording and distribution without long-term contracts. One of my favourite band Coldplay started off as an indie band.
Madchester
Madchester is a genre of Britpop that may be defined by a percolating sixteenth-note dance groove with chunky guitars. Some examples of Madchester bands are The Charlatans U.K., Ned's Atomic Dustbin, and Jesus Jones.
