Lupus It is a chronic auto-immune disease with a wide range of clinical presentations. 9 out of 10 people with lupus are women. The disease usually strikes between late teens and early 40’s, although it can occur in older individuals. Ethnic groups like those with Asian or African ancestry are more at risk of developing the disease and it can be more severe compared to Caucasian groups. Some people developing lupus may suffer only minor inconvenience. Other people suffer significant life-long disability. Considering all these aspects, it looks like each patient has their own special disease, that’s why a single therapeutic approach to SLE is nearly impossible.
