Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
His parents were Mary Albert and William Armstrong. His sister was Beatrice Armstrong Collins. His children are Clarence Armstrong, and Sharon Preston-Folta. His Grandmother was Josephine Armstrong.
Early life
His father left shortly after Louis was born for work and his mother had to go to work sometimes to. A Jewish family gave Louis a job of picking up trash. They also invited him to meals. The family also encouraged Louis to sing. In 1912 on the 4th of July he fired his stepfather's gun in the air and got arrested but also got sent to a colored boy’s home. He also received musical instruction on the cornet and fell in love with music.
