Most people in Libya live in urban areas and are from Arab ancestry. Due to most of them being Arab, Libya’s official language is Arabic. Among the Arabs there is a tribe of Imazighen people who are light skinned and tall. They are Islam and most of them are Sunni muslims. Libyans value their family and community, and believe that family background is very important. Some of the customs in Libya are very different from the US. In Libya the average wedding can last anywhere from one to six days, where as in the US they usually only lasts one day. It is also unacceptable for men to touch women in public, even if she is your wife. Family is very important to Libyans, as your parents grow old you are expected to take care of them.
