Plastic comes from the Greek plassein, which means ‘to mould’. Some plastic are derived from natural sources and some are from semi-synthetic, some are entirely synthetic and some are thermoplastic, like candle wax, which melt when heated and can be reshaped.

In 1885, Baekeland began interest in plastic, as a young chemistry student in Belgium, he started on research into phenolic resins. In some years later, he
