God called David to be the “shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel” (New Revised Standard Version, 2 Samuel 5:2). David replaced King Saul, the first king of Israel because he had lost favor with the Lord. As king, David conquered the previous inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Jebusites. After David and the Israelites settled in Jerusalem, the Philistine people tried to conquer them. However, the Lord delivered a victory to David, which allowed him to obtain the Ark of the Covenant from Baale-Judah. When the Israelites went to retrieve the Ark, God struck down Uzzah for touching it. This act made David fearful of God, giving the Ark to the house of Odeb-edom instead of housing it himself. After hearing of all the blessings bestowed on the house of Odeb-edom by God since the Ark of the Covenant had resided there, David decided to bring the Ark into his home in Jerusalem. He danced and gave offerings for the Lord and blessed all of the townspeople after receiving the Ark. The Lord then spoke to the prophet Nathan to tell David to build a permanent house for Him in Jerusalem, instead of having the Ark. In return for building a house for the Lord, the Lord promised to “make for [David] a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth” (2 Samuel 7:9). God …show more content…
The experience of a hierophany is a sensory one. The Lord manifests himself to David as well as the prophet Nathan multiple times by speaking directly to them. While it is debated whether the Ark was meant to be a footstool or throne for the Lord, it is clear that it was a sacred resting place for the

2 Samuel 7 shows God requesting a house from David and asks for David’s future son to build it in exchange for making his future son king: “...I will raise up your offspring after you...and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever” (2 Samuel 7:12-13). The agreement made between David and God, during David’s reign, presents a differentiated aspect compared to Saul’s reign and God’s full endorsement towards David being king. Due to the agreement, there is also a kinetic aspect in this situation because the house that is being built for God plays a role as the bloodline of King David. The promise to David, that there is an heir, creates his dynasty and his future lineage.…

Following the Exodus from Egypt the Israelites wandered the Sinai wilderness for forty years. Not sure of their future they began worshipping the Canaanite Pantheon instead of God and only upon threats from Moses did they stop their worshipping the pagan deities. Substantial amount of evidence from various archaeological excavations throughout the Levant confirm that the Israelites and the Canaanites believed in the same Father-God named El. The Kingdom of Israel, ruled by Jeroboam I, began a religiously divided nation with idols of El's such as the golden calf in the temples located in Dan and at Bethel and said "Here are your gods O Israel.…

Psalm 68 is an amazing poem written by David that gives insight into the character and qualities of God as sovereign king of both Israel and the world. What is more, the psalm bounces back and forth from speaking to God; using personal pronouns such as ‘you,’ and at the same time David is telling the reader about God. Both of these methods lend well for worship. In addition, David was a king, so his perspective of God as king and the role of the king for his people threads all the way through the entire psalm. Psalm 68 lists specific qualities of God as king, shows his primary activities on behalf of his people and parallels to how King Jesus lived while on earth.…

Mount Moriah is differentiated because it is recognized across the globe and forever engraved in history as the holy site in which Abraham catalyzed Jerusalem’s holy presence.
