The icefish is seemingly a very cool fish. I am still questioning how it is able to perform the way other fish can with no hemoglobin. In class we learn that in vertebrates, they have hemoglobin proteins that creates red blood cells and circulates oxygen . However, these fish have antifreeze proteins that act just as red blood cells do. Which raises the question of since blood has a certain thickness or viscosity how is it able to circulate throughout the fish. I found it fascinating that these fish have clear blood but yet they are able to function properly and get enough oxygen throughout their bodies.
