Though our world is prosperous, advanced, and ideal this is not the case for the isolate country of North Korea. Hyeonseo Lee is a North Korean refugee who presented in TED2013 on February 28, 2013. She spoke about her experience as a child being raised in North Korea and her escape; as well how she helped her family escape. Hyeonseo Lee was born in North Korea in 1983. She was raised learning North Korean propaganda. She claims that she was proud of her country and origin despite seeing public executions; which was viewed as normal. Hyeonseo Lee was then introduced to her country’s suffering when her family received a letter from a family friend claiming that they were waiting to die.
