Aphrodite was the Goddess of love and beauty. She controlled men with her beauty and was able to make them do anything she wanted. She is identified with the planet Venus. She lived on Mount Olympus. She was the wife of Hephaestus, the God of iron, but she was having an affair with Ares, the God of war.
But she also had affairs with other Gods and regular men. Zeus made her marry Hephaestus because he was the least threatening of the Gods. She was the mother of Eros (also known as Cupid) Phobos, Deimos, Harmonia, Pothos, Anteros, Himeros, Hermaphroditos, Rhodos, Eryx, Peitho, Eunomia, The Graces, Priapus, and Aeneas.
She was often associated with the myrtle tree and doves, dolphins, rose, scallop, shell, sparrow, and swans. One story says
