Guyana is a small country with many land and water features. Guyana is divided into three main regions; the coastal plain, inland forest and highland. The coastal plain is a strip of land along the Atlantic Ocean. The inland forest region covers about 85 percent of Guyana and has about a thousand types of timber. Also it has four main rivers, called Essequibo, Demerara, Berbice, and Courantyne. All four rivers flow north into the Atlantic.

Guyana is a republic with a president and a unicameral (one-house). The president appoints a cabinet and a prime minister, who leads the government. Georgetown is the capital and the largest city. The National Assembly makes the country laws.
Guyanas economy is based on agriculture. Farming is a huge part in economy for them. Most of the Guyana people live on small farms where they grow rice and vegetables. Some work on sugar plantations.
Guyanas culture is very similar to ours. English is the official language and is spoken by most of the people. About 30% of the people of Guyana are blacks whose ancestors were brought from Africa as slaves. The rest of the people are Amerindians, Europeans or Chinese.
There are many different weird thing that has happened in the past here. Like the early Dutch settlers started sugar plantations and brought in black slaves to work for them. Also in 1970 a number of religious groups called cults moved to Guyana from other countries. Guyana children between the ages of 6 and 14 must attend school.
