I am a Cadette and in troop 1300. I have been a Girl Scout for 8 years, as I started in first grade. We have a relatively large, but committed troop. My mom is one of the troop leaders and was a Girl Scout when she was a young girl. She put me in this program because she wanted me to learn many skills that Girl Scouts teaches me that will help me in life. I think that Girl Scouts is a wonderful opportunity for young girls to learn their worth, especially now with misogynistic men that don't believe in gender equality and try to fight our growing power. She is important to this community because she has been a leader since 1995, was the annual giving chair person for 20 years, organized christmas caroling for 18 years, as well as community director and recruiter for 8 years. She still is the recruiter and a silver mentor. Janice has been a leader in Girl Scouts for 22 years and was a Girl Scout for 3 years as a child. Janice got into this community by becoming a leader to create a troop for her daughter and other girls. She thinks the most important qualities girls can get out of Girl Scouts is confidence and leadership skills. Her favorite part about this program is the opportunities it provides for young girls. “Girl Scouts impacts Ossining tremendously every year. About 1000 hours of volunteer time every year go into helping the Ossining community. Girl Scouts care for the community in many ways. Girl Scouts connects internationally through drives to collect things in need or even just pen pals with girls from other countries, being part of WAGGGS. Overall the collection of just volunteer efforts and hours is what penetrates throughout the world.” is what Janice stated, when how Girl Scouts affects the larger community.
