The inability to obtain impartial information makes it nearly impossible for viewers to even begin to comprehend what the lives of those living in poverty are like, resulting in the formation of many generalized stereotypes. While it may be simple to create judgements that envelope an entire group of people who all have the same lifestyle, removing these blanket generalizations is hard. According to Catherine Good and Steven Stroessner, stereotypes can be reduced if phrases that do not highlight social identities are used, less emphasis on social identities are made, and positive self-images are encouraged.
