There are a few different kinds of bariatric surgeries, or weight loss surgeries. Bariatric surgery is performed by reducing the size of the stomach, either by removing part of it, or using a band. The most well known weight loss surgery is gastric bypass surgery (also known as Roux-en-Y), which is also the most commonly performed weight loss surgery in the world. To qualify for gastric bypass surgery, you must have a body mass index of forty or above; or a body mass index of thirty-five alongside one obesity related medical condition such as sleep apnea, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, acid reflux, etc.
