The thesis I have chosen to write about on a commonly held misconception is that cracking your knuckles will give you arthritis. I feel that everyone has, at some point in their lives heard the phrase “cracking your joints will give you arthritis”, even now that this misconception has been proven false many people still say this or believe it.
Joint cracking can arise from the negative pressure pulling nitrogen gas into the joint, the sound can also arise from tendons snapping over tissues due to minor adjustments in their gliding paths. Both actions are completely harmless to any joint in the human body and will not cause damage especially in the form of arthritis.
There are two major types of arthritis; osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis,

You are much more at risk for contracting arthritis if a parent or sibling also has it, if you are elderly, if you are a woman you are more at risk of contracting rheumatoid arthritis whereas if you are a man you are more at risk of contracting gout, you are also more likely to contract arthritis if you are obese as there is extra pressure on your joints. As you can see the cracking of joints is not a factor of contracting arthritis.
Consider the findings of researcher, Donald Unger, as a teen his mother warned him that cracking his knuckles would give him arthritis. So, to prove her wrong he cracked all the knuckles on one hand only for 60 years and then compared both to look for traces of arthritis. As expected there were no traces, for his work he won the IG Noble Prize in Medicine. The IG Noble Prize is very like the Nobel Prize award except that it allows it winners to show their inventions and their findings.
It has also been thought that cracking your joints is a good thing as the act of cracking stretches the joints and stimulates the nerve endings there causing pleasure. Therefore let us put an end to the common misconception that cracking your joints can cause arthritis and let us focus our time on trying to find a successful treatment for this

Scientists are trying to figure out what’s in fracking fluids that contains hazardous compounds. Fracking involves injecting water with a mix of chemical additives into rock formations deep underground to promote the release of oil and gas. Throughout the United States, the fracking fluid has led to a natural gas boom, which caused a lot of oppositions and troubling reports of well water that was contaminated. Scientists that are working to figure out what the hazardous compounds are concluded that there are about 8 substances that had raised a red flag, and were identified as being particularly toxic to mammals. The Environmental Protection Agency defines frackings as “A well stimulation process used to maximize the extraction of underground resources; including oil, natural gas, geothermal energy, and even water”(Environmental Protection Agency). Although the history of fracking can be traced back to the 1940’s, it wasn’t until 2003 that was incorporated commercially on a massive scale not only in the United States, but also across the world. This turning point in scale caused immediate backlash from environmentalists across the country. The controversy being: while fracking has completely revolutionised the energy industry, the environmental risks it poses cannot be overlooked.…
