Research Paper On Food Pantry

The need for food in my community inspired me to become more active in volunteering at the food pantry. In the town that I live in, over 300 families come to this food pantry every month to receive food for the month. Many of the head of households in the families are unemployed and receive government assistance. It pains me to see some of the circumstances that individual people and families are in who come to the food bank, but it gives me great joy to see how I am a part of helping them overcome their need for food, even if it is for only a short period of time. The amount gratification that some of the people have that come to the pantry for food is rewarding in numerous ways. It humbles you in a way and makes you grateful

I am a resident at TWU. I was delivering donations to the TWU Food Pantry in Old Main and it was pouring rain. I thought that the gray/black paint on the curb means all parking permits are allowed. I found an open spot near Old Main and was able to easily cart the two rolling cases of canned foods up the circle. I was issued the traffic violation notice at 11:23.…

For my leadership project, I decided to collect donations from the Trumbull Food Pantry. To organize it, I went on Trumbull’s town website home page to get a list of the most needed items from the pantry. From there, I was able to talk to my mom and her administration assistant to put a box in their office so people could drop off their donations. To inform people about this, I drafted an email and my mom sent it out from her work email address with everyone on her team in it informing them about what I was doing and what donations the Trumbull Food Pantry was asking for. My mom’s work team was involved, my mom was involved, I was involved, and the Trumbull Food Pantry, specifically Jennifer Gillis and Monica Valejo in the Social Services Department,…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

Our partner in the fight against hunger, Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS), runs a food pantry that caters to the needs of over 8,600 people in five counties. JFCS annually serves about 77,000 meals to low-income adults and families who struggle with hunger. In addition, the JFCS provides referrals to other community programs than can provide housing, clothes, childcare and health care, among other things (Cravey, 2015). While 77,000 meals sounds like a lot, it’s not enough to satisfy the needs of the community. There are times when the normal 20 to 30 daily visitors swell to over 200, leaving the pantry’s cupboards bare (Cravey, 2015).…

Some people love their phones, and others feel emotionally connected to a diary or a journal. I love my family pantry. On the outside, my storage closet looks like the average storage closet: a small rectangular room no longer than the average refrigerator. It's drab and dull with tissue boxes and canned foods, but among those cereal boxes and zip lock bags is a part of my childhood.…
