Evidence based practice is one of the most commonly used practices in nursing today; it focuses on the needs of the patient. EBP intergrates the best available evidence to guide nursing care and improve patient outcomes (amsn.org) Other practices that are commonly used are systematic review, literature review and meta-analysis. The Institute of Medicine defines a systematic review as a process of identifying, selecting, assessing, and synthesizing the findings from similar but individualized studies (Boswell, Cannon). When there are several studies that are combined together to form one main topic that would be referred to a meta-analysis review, these two topics are what are commonly used to gather information and come to a conclusion
