Research Paper On Equestria

Long ago, before we mortals walked Equestria, perhaps even before Equestria itself, there were two sisters. Celestia, the elder, and Luna, the younger—one born of Day, and one born of Night. Greater than all other beings—immortal siblings imbued with the magic of unicorns, wings of pegasi, and strength of earth ponies—they were Alicorns.

Together, through their strength and wisdom, they united the three pony tribes and justly ruled over them with a gentle hoof. Celestia, the mighty Alicorn Princess of the Day, guided the sun across the sky each day and watched over her little ponies. Once the sun set, Luna, the majestic Alicorn Princess of the Night, painted the skies with light and color for the creatures underneath her moon. Equestria flourished.

But as Equestria prospered, the Princess of the Night languished.

While her sister ruled the

In a fit of righteous rage, and with her strength and magic, she vanquished the monster swiftly and viciously. The battle ended without a single blow struck against the Princess; the demon had no will to fight. Whether out of cowardice or weakness, the beast refused to defend itself, but Luna cared little for its reasons. She watched in satisfaction as it hemorrhaged life fluids onto the ground. Silence pervaded the air until the creature chuckled and spoke its final words. “Fancy yourself a defender of the night, Princess?” the beast asked.

After putting the foal back into a peaceful slumber, the Princess lingered in the child’s mind, thinking. The demon’s words haunted her. Inside, she could still feel the anger boiling, and Luna felt a sensation she had never known, possessiveness.

She and Celestia occasionally defended Equestria from disasters and would-be conquerors, but this felt different than the defense of the sisters’ kingdom. Preventing total destruction was more about pragmatism than

In Marie De France’s “Lanval”, It is interesting how, in spite of a woman’s common status as a tool toward greatness or moral poverty, the fairy queen is still technically a positive character because she raised Lanval to greatness, even though her interference in Lanval’s life appears to consume his personality and identity. In the beginning, Lanval does have some semblance of personality, indicated with the lines “For his valor, for his generosity, / his beauty and bravery” (21-22) which imply a generous nature but not intelligence or strong character, and his weak personality is evidenced by his actions as Lanval ultimately falls to the shallow trait of the fairy queen’s beauty despite the fact that her simple presence indicates far more…

Marie De France’s Lanval is one of the two Arthurian stories in her collection of Lais. Lanval is a work of a courtly romance and deals with issues of both sexuality and colonialism. More specifically, the text illustrates how women’s sexualities are treated differently in direct relation to their status within colonialism. I will argue that because Guenevere is English, her defiance is not addressed in this text because of the underlying proto-nationalist themes present in Marie’s imagining of Arthur and England as inherently deserving of ruling over Scotland. Lanval encounters both the Mysterious Woman of the borderland between Carlisle and Scotland, as well as Arthur’s wife Queen Guenevere, and throughout Lanval’s interactions with the two women, both women are assertive in their power and apparent agency in terms of their sexuality.…

Today the character of Rhiannon from the First Branch of the Mabinogi is considered to be a strong female lead in the Celtic Literature. However, her role within the story is not so clear-cut and much of her power and influence within the text is determined by her ethereal nature. In order to examine the important of Rhiannon’s divinity, it is necessary to understand how the concept of a sovereignty goddess and Otherworld ruler combine to create a position whereby Rhiannon both improves upon and secure Pwyll’s realm. Rhiannon is undeniably a divine figure with a layered history. Her divinity directly contributes to her role as sovereignty goddess.…

Through years the role of a man was and still is to be the provider, fighter, and the “main man” politically, socially, and culturally. They are expected to hold their woman on the highest pedestal they can put her on, and is the strong and well endowed one in the relationship. While as the woman is and still is perceived as the one who practically moves up the social hierarchy by marriage, and is seen as peculiar if they “wear the pants” in the relationship. In Marie de France’s Lanval, she battles this stereotype through female empowerment by reversing traditional gender roles.…

In the Artifact Piece Luna challenged the way contemporary American cultures art present Native American culture as extinct and invisible. The piece was empowering because he placed himself in an exhibition case in the museum in a section on the Kumeyaay Indians, who once lived in San Diego County. There were other mannequins and props showing Kumeyaay’s way of life and culture which were portrayed as lost and extinct (Schlesier, n.d.). In contracts, when viewers looked at Luna’s piece they were shocked to see him as living and breathing.…

    Cernunnos: Celtic God

Cernunnos is a Celtic god, also known as the ‘Horned One’ and sometimes referred to as Herne the Hunter. There isn’t much known about Him really, nothing is written down, the only things that could relate might be in folktales. Mostly he is depicted with stag’s antlers, seated cross-legged and surrounded with animals like stags, wolves and others, holding or wearing torcs. In others he is seen with a ram-horned serpent. He seems to be related mostly to Gaul, but could be known in Britain with other names that haven’t survived, maybe because Cernunnos was not associated with war or heroes, instead he seems to have been a god for animals and forests.…

Arivis the Tarkeena Arivis, as you all must know, is the daughter of a very rich Calorman lord and she considers herself a high bred superior Tarkeena/Princess along with some other purely imaginative titles which I will whole heartedly NOT care to mention. The young girl mysteriously considers herself far above the above average stasis and to give her individuality a considerably “AVERAGE” glance, I would assume that she was a penniless, disowned, fat headed beggar off the street, whom occasionally starts to engage into unintelligent dialogue with her horse. (It’s weird, right?) Avrivis’s “pride” so to say, is pampered and caressed only now more so than ever when she is given no choice but to travel across the countryside…

Lanval is a narrative poem, or Breton lay, written by Marie de France. In this piece of literature, Marie employs common components of lays including references to the supernatural, romance, and chivalry. These themes, as well as Marie’s interpretation of the tale, offer readers valuable insight into Medieval life. Lanval may be a classic example of a romantic lay, but it manages to turn the expected “knight in shining armor” trope upside down by giving the power of the narrative to the women of this story. Marie’s translation of this classic oral tale is a light-hearted reminder of the power of true love.…
