Research Paper On Elder Abuse

The increasing number of aging people in most of the countries has encouraged baby boom generation, which birth rates that occurred between 1946 and 1964, and the increasing life expectancy causes the aging of populations as well. As a result, when people get old, they need someone to take care of them, such as family members, friends, or nursing home staff. Senior adults, however, get abused or mistreatment because of their dependency on others. Neglecting and abusing others are two issues that society can clearly see in our lives, but when people think or discuss those issues, they only talk about child abuse. Elder abuse, however, is a problem that many people ignore despite of the fact that it continues to grow and happen in most of the society.
Elder abuse is not new, but it has been presented in the past society that had been shown in Shakespeare writings and literature. It has been documented in ancient Greek literature and Shakespeare’s King Lear in English literature. In earlier …show more content…
National Academy of Sciences has also defined elder abuse as intentional actions that cause harm to elders either by a caregiver of other persons within a trusted relationship or from other people (Daly, et al., 2012).
