Early years education refers to the education and support given to children from birth to at least 5 years of age. Early years education takes place in a variety of different private, voluntary and state run settings. These include state run nurseries, nursery classes and reception classes within a primary school setting as well as privately run nurseries and childminders. There are also flying start services available to families with children under 5 who are considered to live in areas of deprivation.
