Research Paper On Dead Ringers

Decent Essays
Let's be honest right away. I'm not a huge Cronenberg fan. I've seen most of his movies and more often than not, I don't end up loving them. That qualification right there probably puts me out of the running for giving a valid opinion on Dead Ringers. Nevertheless, this is my site and I can do what I want! First things first, I appreciate the hard work put into the Blu-ray from Scream Factory, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy the movie itself. Where as I normally end up arguing against why a film should be considered a horror film, this time I'm going other way and argue why Lightning Bug is a Horror film. As I stated in Horror, My Definition, a Horror film is a film that used dread and horror, while trying to evoke negative emotions. Lightning Bug does that for me, upon first viewing I wasn't that impressed and disregarded is horror elements. Instead focusing on how its a Coming of Age Drama. But after viewing the film never really settled and has passed through my mind on several occasions and when I reflect on the film it's dark and haunting undertones that remain.…

Crime is a revolving door that continues to be open by those who feel the need to take matters into their own hands. Everyone in society has either witness, experience, or read some sort of crime throughout their lives. According to Donald Black, people who believe their rights would not be justified within our criminal justice system, are more likely to take charge in their own matters. Therefore, incidents where people become victims of a crime, would sometimes lead to breaking the law in order to get vengeance. Black refers this theory as “The Theory of Self-Help.”…

The constant isolation, paranoia and distrust between the characters was not only representative of the political unrest of the 1970s, including the terror experienced in the Cold war, but it also served to highlight the distrust and isolation of humans on a personal level. Isolation is therefore represented as a significant catalyst to the deterioration of humanity itself. Even though Carpenter understood that his contextual audience did not desire this criticism in a time of social and political recovery, The Thing is now praised as a revolutionary film specifically in the science fiction horror genre, carving the way for many other successful modern films that now use similar conventions (Addison,…

The time travel paradox or simply temporal paradox is a self contradictory argument in which time and space contradict each other and challenge destiny. A paradox is a self-contradicting idea that is logically unacceptable because there is no logic explanation to prove it. There are two types of temporal paradoxes: the causal loop and the grandfather paradox; each of them have the same basis, but have subtle differences. The movie “12 Monkeys” is built around a causal loop that enters in the subgenera of a self-fulfilling prophecy. This specific genre of the time travel paradox is based on the fact that an event in the future affect events of the past that will later on affect the future making an inconsistent logic of unexplainable relation of time and space.…

Anxiety and Movement Serene Velocity by Ernie Gehr and So Is This by Michael Snow are two films built from constraints that seem to rely on similar understandings of motion and, in these understandings, evoke similar emotive responses. In these two films, we are presented with velocities. These velocities are causes of tension, frustration, and anxiety. Serene Velocity was filmed in one night in 1970 in a hallway of a building at the University of Binghamton.…

As I sat and watched this movie for the second time in my life, I could view it a little differently than I had before. The first time I watched this, I was with my roommate who absolutely loves this movie. She talked about how amazing it was and finally I gave in and I said, “Let’s watch it.” I watched it like I would watch any new movie, paying attention to the story, not knowing there was a real science behind it. This time when I watched it, I could see the story from a whole different angle.…

I personally enjoyed the film, although they suggested the events that were to occur later, I kept watching with enthusiasm because I wanted to see how they would play out. The diction that the brothers used throughout the film created a negative attitude towards them, although Winthorpe and Billy Ray were the ones to be involved in a legal mess, other characters gained sympathy. Ophelia and Coleman were the ones I was rooting for, they had a job of taking care of others needs from the beginning of the film, and were taken advantage of without receiving appreciation. The wealthy characters such as Penelope and her friends, through the diction and the events were not very liked. The story plaid on a serious issue, which was people’s overwhelming need to consume no matter who or how many people they took advantage of.…
