Research Paper On Christmas In Bolivia

Christmas in Bolivia is very different from ours. In Bolivia Christmas is celebrated from Christmas eve to Epiphany or January 6th. Many of the people in Bolivia are Catholic and go to a mass service called ‘Misa de Gallo’ or Mass of the Rooster. They do this at midnight while lighting off fire-crackers. Families often eat Christmas diner after Misa de Gallo. The Traditional dish is different from our in many ways. First they set the table with lots of flowers. The main dish is called ‘picana’ which is soup or stew made with chicken, lamb or beef, and pork. This dish is often served with potatoes and corn. They also eat salads,roast pork (lechón) or roast beef. They also eat lots of tropical fruit. They also eat wafer cookies called “turrón”. Another important christmas tradition is canastón. Canastón is a a gift basket given by the employers to their employees before their vacation. It contains basic food staples, a a sweet bread with raisins called panetón, and a bottle of cidra or sparkling cider which is not alcoholic. They also get an annual bonus which is required by law. Christmas trees aren't commonly found unless in a large town or city. The Christmas tree is becoming more popular and starts to show up in smaller towns.
