I never thought about the need to know the history in detail or include it when evangelizing. As I look back, I have left out major parts of Christian history in my own life. Christian history is not just the spreading of the gospel that Jesus commanded the apostles to do. The early church was formed because of their obedience but also other sects and opinions of the gospel were formed which are also a part of the history. Christianity has always been challenged but continues to prevail. Knowing what the challenges are can make a difference in evangelizing especially if someone has a particular opinion about something that can be corrected. From the reign of Augustus to Sylvester, the early church saw many changes that are still in place to this date.
