Research Paper On Christian Martyrs

I have enjoyed reading all the passages and commentaries about the first Christian martyr, Stephen. It has really been eye opening and God has showed me some amazing things through this study. Before I get into anything I just want to summarize what I read. In the book of Acts, early church members in the church in Jerusalem were giving their money freely to help the poor. But this caused a bit of a problem because the church was growing so fast that some of the widows in the community were being overlooked. The complaints of this got to the apostles and they chose seven men to give out the gifts to the poor. Among these seven men was Stephen who the Bible specifically points out as being “a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit.” But Stephen began preaching the Gospel in addition to his other duties and performed great wonders and signs among people.
This brought up great opposition against him from Jews who did not accept the Gospel and they began to spread lies about him by saying he spoke blasphemous words about Moses and God. They then seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. They produced false

He was so filled with the Holy Spirit and so on fire for God that he couldn’t help but preach and perform signs and wonders for the sake of the Gospel of Christ, no matter the cost. He was faithful till the end and his faithfulness is really something to admire. John Foxe said that “his death was occasioned by the faithful manner in which he preached the Gospel to the betrayers and murderers of Christ.” He was faithful until he took his last breath. Stephen also carried an overwhelming peace during everything that happened to him. Like Jesus, Stephen died at peace with God, himself, and the world, even those who were persecuting him. That is an unbelievable peace that Stephen displays that we have access to now! It’s so amazing the life that we have through

In The Martyrdom of Saints Perpetua and Felicity, the narrator says that the purpose of these stories is to understand how the early Christians viewed the martyrs and the reward that they would receive in the afterlife (1). The narrator believes that we must publish stories like these to give honor to God. These examples illuminate God’s unchanging grace towards humanity and shows that what God promises will be fulfilled. It strengthens man’s faith to see these examples. If we see that these people went through all these trials for their faith, we may have the strength to face the minor trials we encounter.…

Most people associate the Crusades with religious persecution and unrestrained cruelty and death. However, despite the fact that there were definite atrocities performed, the Crusades began with a very noble purpose against a very real threat. In this paper, I will be talking about the trustworthiness and historicity of the Gospels. The historical reliability of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ miracles, and did Jesus claim to be God. Did his disciples believe he was God? The accuracy of the resurrection accounts in the Gospels, that is, did Jesus rise bodily from the dead?…

G.K. Chesterton’s Orthodoxy is about his beliefs of both the acts of martyrdom and suicide. Chesterton believes martyrdom is the act of someone giving their life to save or protect something else. He says, “A martyr is a man who cares so much for something outside him, that he forgets his own personal life” (p133). Chesterton also sees a martyr as someone who is trying to begin something new instead of ending something. He says, “In other words, the martyr is noble, exactly because he confesses this ultimate link with life: he sets his heart outside himself: he dies that something may live” (p133).…

Once Christianity was developed and underwent blasphemy from other cults, they were then supported by King Constantine which allowed them to practice their religion freely. Christians believed in one God and believed it was dishonorable to worship false idols because that was not considered the way to salvation. Christians turned away from the Jewish religion because they believed that God would send his Messiah, Jesus, and he would be considered the pathway to proper salvation. After the crucifixion of Jesus and the terrorist acts from the people against God’s son, Jesus forgave their sins as he was hung on the cross and was presented as a martyr to the Jerusalem population. Therefore, Christians saw that Jesus was holy and died in a honorable…
