The actriculture and building left people astonished, everyone was so impressed by the buildings and how much they resembled Rome or Greece. Pressed pennies were first shown at the fair, it was just simple words that read “Columbian Exposition 1893”. You could get them in different word fonts but that was about it. Spray paint cans sort of from the fair, not the spray paint we know and use today but the idea of it definitely came from the fair. The kind at the fair was used to help speed up the process of painting and cleaning up buildings. Josephine Cochrane had the first prototype of the dishwasher at the fair, she developed her idea for 4 years after to perfect it. Her company is know today as KitchenAid. The ferris wheel was also invented at the fair, it was known as the “Chicago Wheel”. It was designed and built by George Ferris. The wheel was 264 feet high, it had 36 cars. Each car could fit 60 people. Around 2000 people at a time could ride. The buildings were beautiful, no one knew what to think about them. The fair left everyone inspired. Mostly all the buildings were built to be temporary but 2… they could deconstruct them after the fair was over.. the buildings that stayed were the Palace of Fine Arts and the World's Congress Auxiliary Building — many events and buildings made their way into museums around the united states, some exhibits went to the Smithsonian Institution and the Philadelphia Commercial Museum. — Some of the bad effects were that Smallpox spread through the fair it also originated at the fair, it came through the city also — When the fair was 2 days till closing the mayor of Chicago was assassinated his name was Carter Harrison, he was assassinated by Patrick Prendergast, the last two days of the fair were cancelled for a public memorial service.
