Carol Twombly is an American type designer born in 1959. She finished Rhode Island School of Design where she started in sculpture major first, and then changing it to graphic design. She was working closely with her professors Charles Bigelow and Kris Holmes, and gained a lot of experience with designing hand-drawing fonts. After graduating and working for a year in Boston in graphic design studio, she accepted an offer from Charles Bigelow to start digital typography program at Stanford University. She was one of five people who finished that program because it got canceled.
In 1988 Twombly started working for Adobe and stayed there till 1999. As a full time type designer she created many popular fonts, Trajan, Myriad, Lithos and Adobe Caslon.
