Transition in one’s life is an inevitable growth process shaped by facing challenges of social and familial expectations. Billy Elliot explores the journey to transition of finding joy and happiness in dancing during the miner’s strike in 1980’s England. His transformation begins by attending Mrs Wilkinson’s ballet class instead of his boxing class. The wide shot exhibiting Billy amongst the girls, learning ballet allows the audience to see his passion for dancing whilst challenging the social stigma on gender roles. Alongside the social obstacles, his family expectations restrict Billy to transform.
