In June 2017, the jury failed to reach a verdict on three charges of aggravated indecent assault; however, he was subsequently found guilty following a retrial in April 2018.

William Henry Cosby Jr. came into this world in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 12, 1937. As the eldest of four brothers, Cosby spent his formative years in the Germantown area of Philadelphia. Initially, the Cosbys managed to maintain their financial stability, but their monetary situation started to deteriorate when Cosby's father, William Cosby Sr., developed a severe drinking problem. Following his father's enlistment in the U.S. Navy, Cosby assumed a parental role for his siblings. Cosby's mom, Anna, was a housekeeper. The low-income Richard Allen Homes became his and his family's home as well. The death of James, the second-oldest of the brothers, was a devastating blow to 8-year-old Cosby.
