After arriving victims were led to the gas chamber being told they were going to get “washed and disinfected”. (Auschwitz Album 3) After the doors were closed and locked poisonous gas started to fill the chamber killing everyone inside. (Auschwitz Album 3) Afterward Jewish prisoners were forced to remove all the bodies from the chamber as well as all metals, dental work, and jewelry and to also cut off all womens hair. Everyone is confined without normal judicial trials, the period of confinement was indeterminate, and camp authorities practice unlimited, arbitrary power. There could have been up to 1,000 people staying in one camp every night and these camps were not big. Also there was only one way in and one way out. During lunch you never wanted to be at the end of the line, because you never knew what was going to be left if anything. When it became night, sleeping arrangements were crucial. 8 people had to fit on one bunk with one blanket and everyone else's body heat to keep them warm.
